4th Feb 2005 Photo Shoot

The best part of all this was to be able to say to friends " Sorry, can't make it on Friday, I'm shooting all day!" I'm so shallow.

The story began with a pleasant young lady phoning & asking if we would be able to help out in finding four, 40 something models, who mountain bike. As Simon & I both fit into that category, we needed two more. Richard Nash swiftly raised his arm & then Katherine quicky came to mind. So our foursome was complete. It's amazing how much preparation goes into something like this. The pictures were for Norwich Union & a photo agency "deep c" were the ones contacting us and arranging everything. They try to think of every possible scenario before the shoot so as to waste as little time as possible on the day. Simon just recovering from the Flu & Richard getting a cold the day before were however, unforeseen snags.

The day dawned, I wish I could say bright, but sadly it was pretty grey & misty. Regardless, we all met at the shop at 9am & made our introductions then it was off to the car park, at the foot of the steps leading up to Leith Hill tower to begin the shoot. The idea was to get some shots around the tower & get to it the quickest way possible with some people travelling on foot with photo gear. Carrying the bikes up the steps was a little bit challenging, but made for some atmospheric piccies with us walking up into the mist. We proceeded to do a lot of 'misty' shots & we began to feel sorry for the photographer who was struggling to get some sort of colour into the pictures as basically the tower was shrouded in mist. Us telling them "how nice" it normally is & "you can see for miles" from here were met with polite smiles but a "that doesn't really help" look. We spent all morning up there & then we headed back to Westcott to take some more snaps on the green & then some lunch.

Apres lunch the weather perked up a tiny bit & we decided to try a small quarry in Westcott which may give a bit more colour & contrast (one day's shooting & I'm already speaking the lingo)  That was quite good fun as at least Richard got to go down a moderately tricky downhill & almost wipe out the photographer. Then it was back to the tower again. This time the sun was poking through & it was gorgeous up there. The photographer began to perk up & we spent ages up there doing lots of model poses. The pictures will be used in forthcoming brochures & leaflets & they wanted leisure pictures as well as mtbking pictures, so we did lots of looking out into the distance & 'chatting among ourselves' And as the sun began to go down we were all getting pretty chilly. Luckily when the light goes, no more pictures. So we headed back down for last time. Said our farewells & headed back home, pleased to have experienced a snippet of a supposed glamorous life.
